Executive Summary

Proficiency in using technology for teaching and learning has become essential. Accordingly, ASEAN Education Ministries have introduced capacity-building programmes to familiarize teachers with technology to boost their proficiency with digital tools and platforms. ASEAN should promote enhancing teacher competency so they can prepare students for collaborative and networked contemporary workplaces. Moving from traditional teaching methods to personalised learning can maximise the learning potential of learners. ASEAN Member States (AMS) should consider investing more in teachers and their training, specifically to use information and communication technology (ICT), instill in the learners a love of lifelong learning, and highlight that technology is just one tool at their disposal. Post-COVID-19 pandemic, teachers
should become learning facilitators, aiming to help their students navigate information, develop skills, and pursue their aspirations, gifts, and interests.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Train teachers on the use of technology in education while encouraging development of national policies that mandate technology use in teaching and learning in order to reach marginalised populations.
  • Establish system-wide support for technology-based teacher education and training.
  • Accelerate reskilling and upskilling on digital technology for education personnel.
  • Create opportunities for teachers to use innovation and foster creation of a community of practice in AMS.
  • Develop teachers’ ability to innovate, take part in reflective teaching, promote inclusive and accessible education, and
expand the equitable use of technology in a networked learning environment.
