The policy brief on Strengthening gender equality and social inclusion in disaster responsive social protection and anticipatory action in ASEAN highlights the current state of play and identifies enables and barriers to gender equality and social inclusion in disaster responsive social protection and anticipatory action in the region. Drawing on concrete examples from AMS, including policy innovations, experiences and lessons learned, this policy brief identifies areas that require accelerated efforts and provides key recommendations.

Findings
There has been marked progress in integrating gender into regional policies, frameworks and guidelines relevant to disaster responsive social protection and anticipatory action, with room for further operationalization and application at the national level.
Investment in understanding gendered risks and vulnerabilities in disasters has yielded a critical foundation for the design of inclusive disaster responsive social protection and anticipatory action.
The ASEAN Guidelines on Disaster Responsive Social Protection to Increase Resilience and ASEAN Framework on Anticipatory Action in Disaster Management provide opportunities to boost the mainstreaming of gender and social inclusion.
Gaps persist in monitoring and evaluation.
Recommendations
Strengthen the capacities of key actors at the national and subnational levels in DRSP and anticipatory action so they can use and apply the ASEAN Gender Mainstreaming Strategic Framework 2021–2025 and the ASEAN Regional Framework on Protection, Gender, and Inclusion in Disaster Management 2021–2025.
Strengthen GADDD data collection systems and analysis with a set of standards for collecting and analysing disaggregated data on gender, age and disability, complemented by qualitative data.
Strengthen monitoring and evaluation in a gender-responsive and socially inclusive manner for DRSP and anticipatory action by identifying key indicators that must be monitored and measured to help address the gap in knowledge and support the scaling up of the approach.
