About Media, Culture, and Arts Platform

The ASCC R&D Platform on Media, Culture, and Arts delves into the dynamic interplay between cultural developments and media evolution within ASEAN. This platform aims to foster a deeper understanding of how cultural expressions and media innovations can enhance social cohesion and cultural identity in a rapidly globalizing world.

The ongoing ASCC Research and Development Platform on Media, Culture, and Arts has identified the following key findings
Cultural and social inclusivity for sustainable ASEAN Creative Economy
Approaches to boost the development and promotion of ASEAN Creative Economy (ACE) include heritage-making and the commercialisation of local knowledge and culture. In promoting the ASEAN Creative Economy and regional integration, concerns may arise on the marginalisation of local knowledge when adhering to universal standards in heritage and cultural preservation, which might not adequately address ASEAN's cultural diversity. Without recognising and involving local communities of ASEAN, heritage-making and the commercialisation of local knowledge and culture can lead to displacement and tensions with communities, local practices and custom.
Digital transformation in media and information
The digitalisation of the media industry has transformed how news and information are disseminated and consumed. While these digital transformations offer abundant opportunities, they also pose new concerns and challenges, prominently exemplified by the proliferation of fake news. The democratisation of AI has enabled individuals to create content for various purposes, including to disseminate fake news and misinformation.
